Gandhi (1982) is an Anglo-Indian film, directed by Richard Attenborough, about a life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (likewise referred to as Mahatma Gandhi), leader of the nonviolent resistance movement against British colonial rule in India during the number 1 half of the 20th century.
His story is told from either his times inside South Africa to his assassination on January 30, 1948, and presents the striking depiction of his life. A motion picture won eight Oscars in 1982, including the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Synopsis
Gandhi begins by using his assassination & funeral, & flashes back to his times as a lawyer in South Africa. the film chronicles his subverter & successful passive resistance movement inside South Africa, in which he becomes a national hero.
